The photo above was cropped, resized, had the contrast and exposure altered, a drop shadow added and the HDR effect applied. The link to my catalog of photos (such as it is) is
here. I could see myself using the tools to jazz up some photos of paintings or sculpture for my philosophy class to give them some pizzazz. Of course I would only use images that I had permission to alter. The coolest use of photo editing software I have seen this year is from one of our social studies teachers who knows something about Photoshop and taught her kids edit a photo of themselves into an historic WWI photo. Some of the kids are in the trenches, some are in planes, etc. I don't know if there is an online tool that cuts layers out of a photo.
